Magazine Subscriber Just In It For The Free Tote Bag
When Audrey Royce saw a New Yorker ad pop up on her Instagram feed offering six issues and a tote bag for a mere $12, she didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. “The tote bag felt like a status symbol,” Royce admitted. “I’d see people carrying them around almost every day and I couldn’t help but admire how politically-informed and well-read they must be. Anyone who’s anyone at the farmers market has one.”
Royce is now on issue five of her trial period. When asked whether she plans to continue subscribing, she paused and frowned slightly. “I’m not gonna lie. I tell people I read the articles, but in reality I get a page or two in, tops, then just browse through the cartoons. The articles are actually really long and sometimes I find myself just staring at the page, not taking anything in. To be honest I was really just in it for the tote bag. I feel like I can’t show my face at the farmer’s market without it.”
