Blazers Fan Just Hopes The Players Are Having A Good Time
The Portland Trail Blazers are having a roller coaster season with numerous key injuries and fewer wins than predicted before the season began. Many feel the season is a disappointment, but at least one fan measures success through a different lens. “I’ve been a fan since day one,” said 62 year-old Alameda resident Michelle Ewer. “I’ve seen it all, from the Jailblazers of the early 2000s to the championship in 1977. And while this season hasn’t gone quite as planned, I just hope they’re still having fun out there, because that’s what this is all about.“
Ewer is perfectly happy when the Blazers outscore their opponents, just not when it comes at the expense of their own well-being. “Some of the players just look like they’re at work out there! I was at the game last year when Damian Lillard sent Oklahoma City packing with that game-winner, and he didn’t even crack a smile. Maybe he just knew the other team was disappointed and he didn’t want to be a sore winner. He’s such a sweetheart!“
When asked if she considers wins as the ultimate measure of a team’s success, she shook her head vehemently. “A successful NBA franchise can only be measured in joy. Smiles, high fives, positive jokes that don’t exclude anyone, saying ‘good game’ to the other team afterwards, that’s what I like to see. They shouldn’t even keep score because no team should have to feel like a loser.”
