Burgerville, Appealing To California Transplants, Now Offering Animal Style Milkshakes

Every year, thousands of Californians migrate north in search of cheaper rent, shorter commutes and drinks under $10. However, these benefits come with sacrifices. One of them: no In-N-Out. This presented an opportunity for Burgerville, Oregon’s own burger institution.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
Starting Monday, Burgerville customers can request their milkshakes ‘Animal Style’ – an In-N-Out secret menu staple that includes melted cheese, grilled onions and fry sauce. “We take a lot of pride in our milkshakes,” said Burgerville CEO Jeff Harvey. “We try to source ingredients locally, and Animal Style toppings will be no exception. The cheese will obviously be Tillamook sharp cheddar. The onions are from Hermiston’s River Point Farms, and the fry sauce is specially made for us by Portland’s own Red Duck.”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
California transplants reacted to this news with mixed emotions. Some expressed elation, like 23-year-old Vanessa Berg. “I’m basically always craving In-N-Out. Burgerville is pretty good, but it’s no replacement – until now! I can’t wait to get an animal style Cherryific Bliss shake!”⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The move was met with skepticism by others. “It just feels lazy,” said Chad Evans, a 25-year-old who moved to Portland from San Luis Obispo four months ago. “Like, In-N-Out invented animal style and now Burgerville is just copying them. That said, it looks friggin’ delicious, and I’m totally going on day one.”⁣⁣

A Burgerville spokesperson promised extra staff on hand to meet demand, but cautioned customers to prepare for long lines.⁣⁣
