Magazine Subscriber Just In It For The Free Tote Bag

When Audrey Royce saw a New Yorker ad pop up on her Instagram feed offering six issues and a tote bag for a mere $12, she didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger. “The tote bag felt like a status symbol,” Royce admitted. “I’d see people carrying them around almost every day and I couldn’t help but admire how politically-informed and well-read they must be. Anyone who’s anyone at the farmers market has one.” ⁣

Royce is now on issue five of her trial period. When asked whether she plans to continue subscribing, she paused and frowned slightly. “I’m not gonna lie. I tell people I read the articles, but in reality I get a page or two in, tops, then just browse through the cartoons. The articles are actually really long and sometimes I find myself just staring at the page, not taking anything in. To be honest I was really just in it for the tote bag. I feel like I can’t show my face at the farmer’s market without it.”⁣
