Salem Voted Best Portland Neighborhood For Californians To Move To In 2022
Those who have been waiting for the highly anticipated results need wait no longer: Salem has officially been voted “Best neighborhood in Portland for Californians to move to in 2022”. We caught up with president of the Salem Neighborhood Association, Chuck Bennett, who shared some thoughts about the importance of this very special award.
“Salem, located in deep Southwest Portland, is perfect for those who are relocating from California. It’s got great used car dealerships, several breweries, and is right next door to the Willamette Valley, so the experience of Napa will never be too far away. Plus, with an average home price of $400,000, Californians will be able to purchase an entire house with the money that would have been their 20% down payment for the same thing back in California.“
Bennett proceeded with additional value adds: “Salem is a great choice for Californians since there are far fewer entitled hipster transplants living here than in other Portland neighborhoods like Alberta, Mississippi, or Hawthorne. Those ‘generation one’ transplants from areas like Kansas, Michigan, Illinois and Wisconsin have already outgrown their responsibility for gentrifying Portland, and are highly likely to whine about a new generation of Californians encroaching on the cultural landscape that they hope to consume only for themselves.“
Travel Portland is set to launch a massive ad campaign centered around Salem’s big win. Spokesperson Sam Collins provided a sneak peek of their message.
“Whether it’s settling into a brick-and-mortar with your vanlife boyfriend or bringing your family somewhere that has a yard, Salem’s got everything you need for a fresh new life when you wake up from California dreamin’.“
