PDX To Require Proof Of Paid Arts Tax In Order To Fly
In an effort to ensure that every single Portlander pays their annual $35 arts tax, the Division of Revenue has teamed up with the Transportation Security Administration to crack down on any Portland Resident who may be trying to flee the city on a plane without supporting arts in schools. Starting on April 20th, all travelers leaving Portland, who present an ID with a Portland address, will have to also show proof that they paid their arts tax.
“We must do everything we can to make sure that all Portlanders pay their fair share of this incredibly important tax,” remarked Thomas Lannon, Portland’s Revenue Division Director. “We hope that this partnership with the good people of the TSA will ensure that no one gets on an airplane with weapons, drugs, or while actively evading taxes.”
Doug DuCanin, Chief Liaison for the Portland Port Authority, says that travelers can expect harsh penalties for neglecting to bring the proper documentation. “In addition to our standard rectal exam, folks who try to flee Portland without paying their Arts Tax will be corralled onto a bus and driven to a public elementary school where they will be forced to apologize for being bad people to an auditorium full of children.”
There will be a booth at the airport where you can pay the tax before you go through security, right next to Elephants Delicatessen in the main terminal. Cost of the booth construction, as well as the operational costs are expected to come from funds collected from the Portland Arts Tax.
