23 Year Old Retiree Plays Fifth Round Of Disc Golf This Week
It’s Thursday morning in Portland which means office workers have almost made it to the weekend. But for 23 year old retiree Nate Hokom, it means that it’s time for another round of disc golf – his fifth this week.
“It’s been a long week,” sighed Hokom in an exclusive interview. “I wasn’t sure whether I’d be on target to have hucked five rounds by Wednesd–oh what? It’s Thursday? My bad. But me and the boys headed out to Milo McIver last Sunday which gave me a good head start. Honestly you could say I’m on my sixth round if you count that extra back nine we made time for.”
When asked about his ability to retire so young Hokom said “In life, as in disc golf, you just gotta grip it and rip it. There’s not enough time to not be doing the things that you love. I also got a degree in International Studies which forced me into retirement pretty much the day I graduated. Plus I converted the money I got from Aunt Sandy’s passing into Doge. So yeah, I’m pretty much set for life.”
In other news, the Scallion Editorial Board would like to pay tribute to Lunchtime Disc Golf Course in Southwest Portland, which recently announced that it will be closing its baskets forever. Go play a round while you still have a chance, and to the community of disc golfers who helped maintain the spirit of the course, we wish you all good grippings and good rippings at your new home course, wherever it may be.
