Trump Serves As Example That Low-Income Americans Can Still Receive Great Health Care
Every year, millions of Americans are forced to decide between ignoring necessary medical care, or getting the treatment they need and then having to face potentially crippling debt. Many progressive politicians are fighting to address this terrible reality, making a national program, most notably Medicare for All, a cornerstone of their platform. Now, with President Donald Trump set to be discharged following his hospitalization for COVID, many are wondering if such aggressive measures are necessary at all.
Despite nearly half a billion dollars in loans due soon and nearly all of his business bleeding money, President Trump has been receiving top-notch coverage at Walter Reed Medical Center, all on the taxpayers’ dime. A truly wonderful example of how the collective can look after those struggling the most in their time of need, Mr. Trump regularly receives medical care that costs in the high quintuple digits, all while paying federal taxes in the mid triple digits.
The timing of America’s most famous low-income citizen getting hospitalized is notable. The Supreme Court is set to take up a case on the viability of the Affordable Care Act in early November. If they strike it down, up to 20 million Americans could be kicked off of their health care, and protections could be rolled back for people with preexisting conditions. This includes the seven million Americans that have contracted COVID.
