Portland Brewery Bravely Adds Another IPA To Taplist
Portland is undoubtedly one of the most celebrated beer cities in the country – perhaps even the world. With a staggering number of options for drinkers to choose from and limited shelf space in stores, breweries must find ways to differentiate themselves in order to survive. Some might think this means offering a balanced range of styles, promising something for everyone. Consumer data strongly supports this notion, so long as ‘balanced range of styles’ means ‘seven different IPAs and nothing else’.
Breakside Brewery’s Ben Edmunds, one of the city’s most revered brewmasters, announced his latest release Monday morning. “There are so many amazing styles of beer out there. One day, I’d love the chance to sell some of them. Instead, we’re releasing another fucking IPA, and in fact we’re calling it ‘Another Fucking IPA’. Is that what you want, Portland? You want another fucking IPA?” Many industry analysts expect Another Fucking IPA to be among Portland’s top selling craft beers of 2021.
We caught up with Slabtown beer imbiber Drew McCabe, “Whenever I go to a brewpub I always ask to see the beer menu. If there’s only one IPA, I probably won’t go back. Every tap should be devoted to IPAs, the only beer style as far as I’m concerned. I want to be able to peruse the menu so as to appear discerning and sophisticated, and not a borderline alcoholic. So shout out to Breakside. I know they’d rather make other stuff, but I’m the consumer, I make the rules, and I say yippy-ki-yay to Another Fucking IPA. It meets the moment, and I can’t wait to try it.”
