New Seasons Playlist All Bops

 New Seasons Playlist All Bops

Raucous revelry emerged at the Williams Street New Seasons Market Thursday evening as the normally tranquil grocery store morphed into a scene more commonly seen at Holocene. The spontaneous celebration was attributed to the store’s playlist, which everyone present agreed contained nothing but USDA Certified, Non-GMO, Grade A bangers.⁣⁣⁣

“I was just popping in to get a couple ingredients for dinner,” said 27-year-old Marcie Edmonds. “I was kind of dimly aware that the songs being played were all really good. But then suddenly I found myself tapping my foot and shimmying my shoulders a little bit. I was like, ‘what’s going on here?’ It took me a minute to realize it was a subconscious response to ‘I Don’t Care’ by Icona Pop coming on.“⁣⁣⁣

The energy levels likely would have returned to normal as Icona Pop’s party anthem ended, as humming and head bobbing were about as far as things had gone. It wasn’t to be, however – the extended club edit of ‘Funkytown’ made sure of that. Within seconds, everyone dropped their $12 containers of figs and formed a conga line. Even the store’s employees joined.⁣⁣⁣

There was one more chance for a return to normalcy after the human train returned from Funkytown. Instead, all hell broke loose – Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own’ was next up on the queue. “I wasn’t too familiar with that Icona Pop group,” said 71-year-old retired carpenter Darryl Wilkins, still smiling over the events that transpired. “I’ve heard my granddaughter play it before, but it’s not really my thing. Funkytown definitely got me more in the mood. But then Robyn came on, and I totally lost it. When the chorus came on, every single person in the store sang along at the top of their lungs – ‘I’m in the corner! Watching you’ – well, you know the words. It’s not every day that you see people sashaying down the aisles of a grocery store. Hats off to whomever curated the store playlist.“⁣⁣⁣
