Go to almost any grocery store in Portland and you’ll find large sections rendered utterly barren. Emergency supplies have been hoarded, stockpiled, and in some unfortunate cases, resold at a markup. One store however has managed to avoid this frenzy. Zupans’ aisles remain fully stocked with fine meats, decadent wines and picture perfect produce absolutely bursting with vibrance. What sets them apart from the competition?⁣

“I’ll tell you exactly what,” exclaimed John’s Landing resident Mustafa Fenk irately. “Their prices are hot garbage. Thirty dollars for a Seventh Generation 3-pack. Ground beef for twenty bucks a pound. I don’t care if the cows are grass fed and have a Montessori education. This store is preying on customers during a global pandemic. The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau will be hearing about this.“⁣

We reached store CEO Mark Zupan for comment. Flabbergasted upon hearing the charges being leveled, he released the following statement: “These accusations are unequivocally false. The fact that we would increase our prices based on a national emergency is ridiculous. They are simply marked up their usual 900% – these are our normal prices.“⁣
