West Hills Martini Sign Now Mocktail To Cater To Gen Z
Many homes in Portland’s West Hills have Christmas lights and decorations, but only one boasts a giant illuminated martini. For over 50 years, the various owners have proudly displayed the light-up olive garnished cocktail for the whole town to enjoy. This year, to stay relevant, the martini is getting shaken up, and it’s causing quite a stir.
“Everything must evolve over time to fit the cultural moment, including the ‘tini,” said current homeowner Manousos Shuttlesworth. “Gen-Z is drinking 60% less alcohol than millennials, so in order to keep our display relevant, our display this year will be a mocktail made with non-alcoholic spirits. Some are resistant to change, but Portlanders will just have to get used to seeing a new type of drink up on the hill.”
