No-Kill Shelter Kinda Wishes It Could Just Put Rusty Out Of His Misery

Animal shelters provide care, housing and rehoming services for pets that have been given up, lost or abandoned. Different providers have different capabilities and practices, but a local no-kill shelter wondered if they could make a single exception to their rule.

“Normally we would never bat an eye, as all of the furry friends in our care deserve the dignity of life,” said organization director Angela Groh. “But Rusty is 14 years old, blind in both eyes, incontinent, has trouble respirating correctly and only eats when we mix his food with poop from other dogs, and moans constantly. It’s pretty clear to our staff that this dog doesn’t want to be here. I understand that all life is sacred, but I can’t help but wonder if we’re doing more harm than good keeping him on this earth. I know we are technically a no-kill shelter and that applies no matter what, but I sorta wish we could maybe make a single exception to send sweet Rusty to his place in heaven.”
