Salt & Straw Advances To Phase 3 Of Vaccine Flavor Trials

“It is imperative that a vaccine is not only effective at creating antibodies, but is also memorable, artisanal and uniquely delicious.”

Researchers and scientists around the world are racing to develop a coronavirus vaccine that can start the process of returning life to some semblance of normal. Assisting in their efforts is Portland culinary behemoth Salt & Straw, whose team of infectious dessert experts are hard at work in the development and testing phase of an ambitious project titled Operation We All Scream For Vaccine.

“As we move into stage 3 trials, the margin of error gets smaller and smaller,” said Lead Flavor Researcher Araceli Wagner. “It is imperative that a vaccine is not only effective at creating antibodies, but is also memorable, artisanal and uniquely delicious. Our sticky waffle matcha praline, caramel freckled lavender blue cheese sherbet, and coconut Moonstruck Chocolate lamb biryani toffee crunch vaccines have received rave reviews across a broad range of demographics. We did have to halt late stage trials on our kimchi Sitka spruce mochi vaccine when a participant started violently throwing up, but it turned out she was just extremely allergic to cabbage.“⁣

Dr. Wagner explained that although their potential ice cream vaccines would need to be kept below freezing temperatures like most competitors’ versions, they do have at least one unique advantage. “Assuming late stage testing goes well, we will need to produce and distribute hundreds of millions of vaccine scoops. Luckily for us, Salt & Straw customers have long grown accustomed to waiting patiently in massive lines, so we don’t anticipate this rollout to be any different.“⁣
