Republicans Pledge To Confirm Supreme Court Justice Who Believes Black Lives Matter Until They’re Born
America is mourning the death of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Her legal career advanced gender equality and inspired a generation. From her work as a lawyer, and founder of the Women’s Rights Project at the ACLU, through her 27 years on the Supreme Court, RBG used the law as an instrument of change. For anyone who values equality, fairness and common decency, her death comes as a heartbreaking loss.
“This is a major win for Republicans,” announced Senator Mitch McConnell gleefully. “Obviously, the overall political will of the country is very much not in our favor, and it is trending further and further away from us by the year. As such, we need stacked courts to maintain power long term. I was thrilled just to have been able to steal one Supreme Court seat back in 2016. Now we get to steal another one? I can’t wait to jam this confirmation through before the election. The deal with the devil that I made with myself just continues to pay off.“
There is still speculation as to who the nominee will be, but Republican leaders have promised someone who upholds their basic mission statement, that Black lives matter until birth. “Americans should not have the right to barge in and murder an innocent fetus while it’s sleeping in its amniotic sac,” said South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham. “However, once they pass through the birth canal, have at it.“
As Republicans prepare to reshape the Supreme Court for decades to come, Senator McConnell made note of yesterday’s grand jury decision not to charge the two officers who shot and killed Breonna Taylor, and to charge a third officer with a minor unrelated offense. “We must be mindful in this moment of the absolute atrocity that is the grand jury decision,” said McConnell, shaking his head. “Justice for that officer.“
