“When you’re at base camp, your lungs need to acclimate to the thinner air. Tear gas is like that thin Everest air – you should only be exposed to it when absolutely critical.“⁣

I haven’t meaningfully pushed back on PPDs use of expensive crowd control devices like LRADS, tear gas, and overtime pay because if there’s one thing I learned from summiting Everest, it’s that anything is possible if you throw enough money at it.⁣

The treacherous conditions on Everest – which is three times taller than Mount Hood – have led to numerous casualties over the years. I pray for the recovery of the young man shot in the head under my watch, just like I prayed for the men and women injured while ascending the world’s highest peak.⁣
