Buffalo Exchange Offers $.43 And Crumpled Panera Punchcard For Woman’s Entire Wardrobe

Laden with two duffel bags packed with a variety of shirts, sweaters, jeans, scarves and coats, Monica Abrams arrived at the Hawthorne Buffalo Exchange full of hope and determination. The 24-year-old had just accepted a position as a marketing coordinator at a nonprofit, and with that came the realization that her wardrobe needed a refresh. “I bought most of my clothes during college,” said Abrams. “They’re still in great shape and are super cute, but I think it’s time to dress a little bit more professionally. I know Buffalo won’t take everything, but I think most of this stuff should go.“⁣

The half-hour wait to sell her clothes flew by as she fantasized about how she would use her newfound riches. She figured her assortment of clothes baring the tags of Hollister, Zara, Uniqlo, Madewell and more would fetch $100 or so. “Even I only get $50, that’s honestly still a win. I could probably find a really nice blazer here for that cost.“⁣

When she finally reached the front of the line, she was greeted by a friendly buyer who began examining her attire. Abrams’ sunny outlook slowly faded into disillusioned chagrin as the process began. First the buyer passed on her lightly worn Uniqlo jumper. “No biggie,” she thought. After all, it only cost $10 to begin with. Then her Ralph Lauren striped blouse was set aside – a personal blow, as it was once her favorite shirt. The next victims were her beloved Everlane jeans, a J Crew scarf and a flannel from L.L. Bean. “They’re just not quite what we’re looking for right now,” the buyer explained sheepishly.⁣

When all was said and done, the buyer made a final offer of $.42 and a crumpled, half filled out Panera Bread punchcard in exchange for Abrams’ wardrobe.
